Truth. Exercises elevates your metabolism, and depending on the intensity, can keep it elevated for a period of time after you’re done exercising.
Truth. Although I don’t know about how carbohydrate metabolization is effected. I know that if you don’t get enough sleep, it puts your body under stress, your body releases cortisol, and high levels of cortisol prevent oxidation of fat.
Truth. Your metabolism is elevated slightly in order to process the water and raise the temperature. I wouldn’t count on the “for up to half hour” claim. Definitely aim to drink 2L of water a day. Drinking before/after a meal is optional. I find that if I drink too much water before my meal then I don’t actually finish my meal. And that’s not good because then I’m short on calories. I try taking small sips throughout my meal though. Helps me eat slower so I feel satiated by the end.
False. Eating a piece of fruit every 2-3 hours isn’t going to prevent your body from going into starvation mode. “Starvation mode” happens when you have inadequate intake. Your body adapts to the low amount of energy it receives by lowering your metabolism, thus you burn less overall. If you’re eating too little calories on average on a regular basis, eating small meals 2-3 hours is not going to prevent your body from lowering your metabolism.
False. Green tea does not speed up the oxidation of fat. Green tea has an effect on insulin levels; consuming green tea increases your sensitivity to insulin. The body stops burning body fat with the presence of insulin. Lower levels of insulin = higher fat oxidation. You’re not burning more body fat because of the green tea; you’re burning more fat because you have lower levels of insulin. You can lower your insulin levels with a healthier lifestyle, diet and fitness. There’s no such thing as a “fat burning” miracle food. But the antioxidants are good for you so there’s no reason not to drink green tea if you like it. :))
